b. 1958, United States — Kernel developer, documentation maintainer, editor of LWN.net
Also known as: Corbet, jcorbet
Jonathan Corbet co-founded LWN.net (Linux Weekly News) in 1998. For more than 25 years LWN has been the kernel community's weekly newspaper, with uniquely thorough coverage of merging-window summaries, subsystem developments, and community debates. Corbet writes most of the kernel coverage himself.
He is also a kernel developer — he maintains the kernel documentation tree — and co-author of Linux Device Drivers (O'Reilly, 3rd edition 2005), the canonical driver-writing text. His annual Kernel Report keynote at Linux Foundation events is a primary source for anyone tracking how the kernel is evolving: release cadences, contributor demographics, subsystem growth, and the yearly controversies.
If you want to understand how a piece of the Linux kernel changed over the past two decades, Corbet has almost certainly written the canonical article on it.
