AlmaLinux is a 1:1 binary-compatible rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, founded in 2021 after Red Hat redirected CentOS Linux toward the upstream CentOS Stream model. It targets servers running enterprise workloads and is governed by the non-profit AlmaLinux OS Foundation.

Major version cadence tracks RHEL exactly, with long-term support for each release matching upstream RHEL's lifecycle.
