Rocky Linux

Community-driven RHEL-compatible enterprise Linux distribution.

Rocky Linux is the other major RHEL rebuild, also founded in 2021 after the CentOS Linux change. The project is led by the Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation and was started by Gregory Kurtzer, a co-founder of the original CentOS project.

Rocky and AlmaLinux fill the same niche; choice between them is typically driven by governance preference rather than technical difference.
