ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors provide a word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation tool with high-fidelity support for the .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx formats. The editors are the same engines that power the ONLYOFFICE Docs collaboration server (which embeds the same editors in browsers for real-time collaborative editing), and the consistency between desktop and web editing is one of the project's selling points.

Ascensio System SIA, a Latvian company, develops ONLYOFFICE. The desktop editors are free and open source under AGPLv3; the ONLYOFFICE Workspace and document server have separate commercial licences for organisations that need on-premises collaborative editing.

ONLYOFFICE is the closest free alternative to Microsoft Office in .docx fidelity. Where LibreOffice Writer occasionally renders .docx layouts differently from Word, ONLYOFFICE Document Editor typically does not. This makes it especially popular in organisations that exchange Office documents with external parties on a regular basis.
