Hyprland
A dynamic tiling Wayland compositor with smooth animations.
Hyprland is a dynamic tiling Wayland compositor that pairs a keyboard-driven tiling workflow with smooth animations, gradient borders, blur, and rounded corners. It uses its own forked render path on top of wlroots and supports per-workspace animation rules, sophisticated layout primitives (master/stack, binary-split, grid), and a Lua-friendly plugin API.
Vaxry started Hyprland in 2022, and it grew from a niche project into one of the most-watched Wayland compositors over the following two years, in particular because of its appeal to ricing communities — users who tile windows aggressively while also wanting the visual polish typically associated with compositing window managers.
Hyprland is most commonly seen in Arch-flavoured setups, but packages exist for most distributions, and many "ricing" dotfile repositories on GitHub now pair Hyprland with Waybar, Anyrun or rofi-wayland, and similar tools. Long-term direction includes a more stable plugin ABI and broader hardware support; the project remains under fairly active development.
